John August Swanson HAND-PRINTED SERIGRAPHS
The Last Supper
The theme of John August Swanson's serigraph of The Last Supper is community, and what it means to
share a meal together. John writes, "I see, in The Last Supper, a scene in which the sacred embraces the ordinary. Our daily
bread becomes holy when it is shared. The fruit of our labor becomes the fruit of the Spirit. At a round table there is no
hierarchy. It is a welcome table. Jesus is both host and companion. We are all participating in this supper. It is the table
where we come to know and love each other in the breaking of bread, and know we are not alone any more."
